DEATH TOLL RISES TO 6,509

CARACAS, AUGUST 25 /SRNA/ - The death toll from the earthquakes in Venezuela has risen to 6,509, the President of the National Assembly Jorge Rodriguez announced.

According to the latest data, 226,696 people have so far sought medical assistance, and 6,462 people have been rescued from under the rubble.

More than 25,000 houses have suffered major damage, TASS reported.

Earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 struck Venezuela on June 24, just 40 seconds apart.
