ATHENS, OCTOBER 12 /SRNA/ - Traffic restrictions on certain weekdays in central Athens, introduced to reduce pollution, came back into force today after the summer break, police said.
Cars will be allowed into the so-called small ring in central Athens every other day, depending on the final digit of their license plate.
Vehicles with even-numbered plates will be allowed into the city center only on even-numbered dates.
The restrictions apply from Monday to Thursday between 7.00 a.m. and 8.00 p.m. and on Fridays from 7.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. All vehicles may enter the center on weekends and public holidays, or when public transport unions are on strike.
Greek news portal eKathimerini reported that electric, hybrid and low-emission vehicles are exempt from the measure. The restrictions will remain in force until July 23 next year.
