OTTAWA, NOVEMBER 1 /SRNA/ - Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said today that he had spoken with US President Donald Trump about the future of trade relations between the two countries, noting that negotiating teams would work over the coming weeks to reach a mutually beneficial trade agreement.

In a post on X, Carney said the conversation, which he described as good, followed recent constructive discussions on the framework for a future trade deal.

According to him, the agreement should help create new jobs, improve affordability for families, and fully respect Canada's languages, culture and sovereignty.

"Our teams will now work towards achieving this goal over the coming weeks," Carney said.

Trade negotiations between the US and Canada have been slow and difficult since Canada walked away from the negotiating table in August, with both sides imposing new tariffs this fall, Tanjug reported.
