BRUSSELS, AUGUST 19 /SRNA/ - The bodies of two Belgian mountaineers who disappeared in the Swiss province of Weissmis in 1992 have been identified thanks to DNA analysis, the police of the Swiss Canton of Valais announced.
The police states that the remains of the mountaineers were found by a hiker on July 26 on the Trift Glacier.
The bodies were found thanks to the melting ice on the glacier, Adnkronos reported.
According to the agency, the bodies were transported to the Institute of Forensic Medicine at the Sion Hospital for identification. Direct comparison of genetic profiles determined that these were persons who went missing in 1992, aged 39 and 41 at the time.
The cantonal police are updating the list of persons missing in the mountains, rivers and lakes since 1925.
