BIONTECH TO CLOSE THREE PLANTS IN GERMANY

BERLIN, SEPTEMBER 28 /SRNA/ - Pharmaceutical giant BioNTech, known worldwide for developing a vaccine against the coronavirus, has announced that it will close three plants in Germany, affecting 1,800 workers.

The Mainz-based company said it would close facilities in Idar-Oberstein, Marburg and Tübingen after no buyer was found to take them over.

BioNTech, together with its US partner Pfizer, was the first company to receive approval for the use of a COVID-19 vaccine, earning billions of euros in the process.

The company became world-famous, but demand for the COVID-19 vaccine has been declining for several years. Meanwhile, BioNTech has not brought any other products to market, DPA reported.
