BEIJING TO BAN EXPORTS OF DUAL-USE GOODS

BEIJING,. JULY 24 /SRNA/ - China will ban exports of dual-use goods to an additional 14 EU entities with immediate effect, the Ministry of Commerce said, describing the measure as a response to the latest sanctions imposed on Russia.

Dual-use goods are products, software or technologies that have both civilian and military applications, including certain rare earth elements that are essential for the production of drones and chips.

The ministry said the European entities barred from receiving dual-use goods include the German automotive and defense manufacturer Rheinmetall and the Polish electronics company Vigo Photonics.

Foreign organisations and individuals will also be prohibited from transferring or supplying dual-use goods of Chinese origin to those entities, although Chinese exporters may apply for a licence in exceptional cases.

The EU yesterday adopted its 21st package of sanctions against Russia over its war in Ukraine, and China's Ministry of Commerce said that 14 companies from China and Hong Kong had been placed under the sanctions.

In a statement, the EU said it had added 51 new entities, including some based in China, to the list of those subject to tighter export restrictions on dual-use goods and technologies due to their support for Russia's military and industrial complex.
