VIENNA, NOVEMBER 7 /SRNA/ - Anti-government demonstrations are taking place in central Vienna, where participants are calling on Austria to maintain its neutral status and opposing closer ties with NATO, RIA Novosti's correspondent reported.

The rally began at noon. The event's organizer criticized the current government, pointing out that, despite lacking majority support among the population according to opinion polls, the authorities are continuing to pursue their policies.

Speakers at the rally accused the Austrian Government of increasing the country's already enormous national debt and financing the war in Ukraine through the EU.

There was also criticism of the Austrian Government's transport and tax policies.

Demonstrators are carrying banners reading “Yes to neutrality and peace, no to NATO”, “We don't need a coalition of the willing or warmongers” and “The EU is putting targets on the backs of its citizens”.

Others are calling for new elections, while one demonstrator is holding a banner demanding: “Take Russia's security interests into account.”
