7.2-MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE STRIKES VANUATU

SIDNEY, OCTOBER 24 /SRNA/ - A 7.2-magnitude earthquake was recorded off the west coast of Espiritu Santo, the largest island in the Republic of Vanuatu in the Pacific Ocean, according to the US Geological Survey /USGS/.

The epicenter was located 200 kilometers west of the town of Sola, which has a population of around 1,100.

The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has issued a tsunami warning.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers.
