RUSSIA AND US DISCUSS POSSIBLE FRIENDLY FOOTBALL MATCH

KRASNOYARSK, OCTOBER 22 /SRNA/ – The Russian Football Union is in talks with the US Soccer Federation about the possibility of arranging a friendly match between the two national teams, Russian Football Union Secretary General Maxim Mitrofanov said, TASS reported.

"We are considering the possibility of playing a match against the US national team. We have discussed the matter with the US federation several times, but it is still too early to assess how successful those talks have been. For now, I can only say that the current situation is quite positive," Mitrofanov said on the sidelines of the 14th international sports forum, Russia - A Country of Sport.

Earlier, US Special Envoy for Global Partnerships Paolo Zampolli said an exhibition soccer match between Russia and the United States could be organized, adding that the two countries also had prospects for further cooperation in sports, particularly hockey, in which both countries have achieved top-level results.

The 14th international sports forum, Russia - A Country of Sport, opened in Krasnoyarsk yesterday and will conclude tomorrow. The forum is being held with the support of the Russian government and Ministry of Sport.
