SRBAC, JUNE 1 /SRNA/ – Cyclist Živko Savić from Srbac won second place in the six-hour race category at the European Ultra-Cycling Championship, held in Oriovac, Croatia.
Savić finished yesterday just eight minutes behind the winner Ryan Collins, a multiple world champion and Guinness World Record holder. In a statement to SRNA, he said he covered 231 kilometers during the race and managed to follow the main rival's attacks for almost five hours.
"Collins set a very strong pace from the start. After just a few laps, only three riders remained in the leading group, and I knew I had a real chance for a medal if I could endure until the final hour. In the closing stages, he launched several powerful attacks that I was the only one able to follow, but in the end the advantage of his specialized TT bike made the difference," Savić said.
Savić noted that he managed to build a safe gap over the third-placed competitor and secured second place until the end of the race.
"I was the only rider among the leaders using a standard road bike, while the others used aero TT bikes designed for this type of competition, so I can be very satisfied with the result achieved," he added.
He also highlighted that his sons Boško and Aleksandar took part in a children's cycling race for the first time, finishing third and fourth among more than 70 competitors.
