WASHINGTON, JUNE 2 /SRNA/ - The official balls that will be used at the upcoming FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico will be equipped with a motion sensor that will collect data and send them to the VAR room and they will have to be charged before each game, the magazine Newsweek reported, referring to the company Adidas, which produced the balls that will be used during the tournament.

"The new ball contains a 500 Hz inertial motion sensor chip, which collects and sends data to the VAR system," the company said.

The report points out that the sensors will monitor every touch of the ball and will help make decisions about potential offsides, handballs and other suspicious situations.

According to Adidas representatives, the balls are charged at the special charging stations. It takes about 90 minutes to charge the battery in the ball and it can be actively used for about six hours, TASS reported.

Adidas spokesperson said that it is not possible to request a ball change during the match due to an empty battery.

The World Cup, in which a total of 48 national teams will play for the first time, begins on June 11 and will last until July 19.
