PALE, OCTOBER 24 /SRNA/ - The official commemoration of the 35th anniversary of the Republika Srpska National Assembly began with the laying of wreaths at the "Sabornost" Monument in Creators of the Republic of Srpska Square in Pale.

Wreaths were laid by a delegation of the institutions of Republika Srpska led by Republika Srpska President Siniša Karan, National Assembly Speaker Nenad Stevandić, Milorad Dodik, chairman of the Organizing Committee for the Commemoration of the 35th Anniversary of the National Assembly, and Prime Minister Savo Minić.

Wreaths were also laid at the "Sabornost" Monument by representatives of the Association of Creators of Republika Srpska, which brings together members of the first convocation of the National Assembly and other officials from that period; the families of the first President of Republika Srpska, Radovan Karadžić, and the first Speaker of the National Assembly, Momčilo Krajišnik; and representatives of the Veterans Organization of Republika Srpska.

On behalf of the institutions of the Republic of Serbia, wreaths were laid by Serbia’s Ambassador to BiH, Ivan Todorov, and Nataša Đorđević, minister-counselor at the Serbian Embassy in BiH.

The commemoration of this important anniversary will continue at 4 p.m. with a ceremonial academy at the Cultural Center in Pale. The ceremony will be preceded by a news conference at 3:40 p.m, which the Media System of Republika Srpska – SRNA will broadcast live on its YouTube channel.

The National Assembly of Republika Srpska was established on October 24, 1991, in Sarajevo, initially under the name Assembly of the Serb People in BiH.

The decision to establish the Assembly was made by ethnic Serb MPs who had been elected to the Assembly of the then Socialist Republic of BiH in the multiparty elections held in the fall of 1990.

This legislative body made historic decisions concerning the survival of the Serb people, the proclamation of Republika Srpska, and the adoption of its first Constitution.
