VIŠKOVIĆ: JOINT COMMEMORATION ON JULY 6 IN NEVESINJE

BANJA LUKA, MAY 13 /SRNA/ - Republika Srpska Prime Minister Radovan Višković announced that on July 6 in Nevesinje, a joint commemoration will be held to mark the 150th anniversary of the Nevesinje Uprising, a significant event in Serb’s history, jointly organised by Republika Srpska and Serbia.

Višković emphasized that this uprising ultimately led to the independence of Serbia and Montenegro at the Berlin Congress in 1878, while, unfortunately, BiH got a new occupier.

"Our contribution to the independence of Serbia and Montenegro through this event is immense. Republika Srpska is grateful that this is yet another major event we are celebrating together," said Višković after a meeting of the Organisational Committee for marking the anniversary of the Nevesinje Uprising.

He thanked Serbia’s institutions, especially President Aleksandar Vučić, former Prime Minister Miloš Vučević, and Minister of Culture Nikola Selaković, for accepting the initiative and contributing to the joint commemoration.

Višković noted that all prior agreements have been fulfilled, including the publication of a comprehensive book compiling all past editions on the Nevesinje Uprising, and the production of a documentary film.

"The mayor of Nevesinje, Milenko Avdalović, has taken responsibility for issuing a public call to arrange the memorial complex in Krekovi, where this event is traditionally marked, the works are underway," Višković stated.

Minister of Culture of Serbia Nikola Selaković confirmed that everything is proceeding according to plan, adding that the event could be considered the "third Serbia n uprising" due to its significant political consequences for the Serb people in the Balkans.

"This major jubilee celebration stems directly from an agreement made 11 years ago between Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik, to jointly mark dates of importance to the Serb people," Selaković said.

He added that a ceremonial gathering will take place in Belgrade on September 15, on the Day of the Unity of Serbs, Freedom, and the National Flag, and that various events throughout the year will honour the 150th anniversary of the Nevesinje Uprising.

"From September onwards, as part of the traditional 'Days of Serbia in Srpska' event, we plan to organise various types of programmes across cities and municipalities in Republika Srpska, bringing these contents to people throughout the entity," Selaković added.

Nevesinje Mayor Milenko Avdalović says the municipality has earned its place in the history of Serbs thanks to the uprising that began in 1875, calling it one of the most significant dates jointly marked by Srpska and Serbia.

He noted that the main event will begin with a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, to be served by His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia, followed by ceremonial and cultural-artistic programme.
