PALE, JUNE 21 /SRNA/ – In the area of Pale and Sokolac, nature and adrenaline lovers can enjoy the natural monument “Crvene stijene” (Red Rocks), where a major attraction is the Via Ferrata “Sokolov put” – a secured mountaineering trail that allows climbers to cross inaccessible mountain sections using a steel cable and metal footholds.
This climbing trail was opened five years ago on Mount Romanija. It is 350 meters long and equipped with steel aids, including two suspension bridges that make climbing easier and safer, even for those with little alpine experience.
The via ferrata requires responsible behavior and the use of protective gear – helmet, harness, and a via ferrata set that connects the climber to the safety cable.
Everyone who chooses to climb the via ferrata will experience an unforgettable adventure: after the first few steps up the cliff, the heart starts racing, and all focus turns to gripping the cable firmly. Step by step along the rock face, as the view opens up to the sky, fear slowly mixes with excitement until the summit is reached.
Once at the top, climbers are rewarded with a breathtaking view of untouched nature and the refreshing mountain air.
Also located on Romanija is the mountain lodge “Crvene stijene”, where visitors can rest and stay overnight after tackling the via ferrata, scenic viewpoints, and nearby hikes.
Those less inclined to adrenaline can enjoy a peaceful walk through the conifer forest on a marked 800-meter trail leading to the “Crvene stijene” lookout point, situated at an elevation of 1,423 meters.
At one of the most beautiful lookouts on Romanija, visitors will find a wooden photo frame for taking pictures and several benches for rest.
The Via Ferrata “Sokolov put” was built on the Crvene stijene as part of the project “Enjoy the Sarajevo-Romanija Region”, implemented in 2019 and 2020 by the Development Agency of the City of East Sarajevo, the city’s Tourist Organization, and the Chamber of Commerce of Republika Srpska.
