TREBINJE DOG RESCUE SHELTER AN EXAMPLE IN REGION

TREBINJE, APRIL 17 /SRNA/ - "Danica" dog rescue shelter in Trebinje, which houses about a hundred dogs, takes well care of the animals who have adequate care, and is the shelter that can serve as an example of good practice in the region, said the general director of the Animal Network, David Barritt, the organisation that financed the construction of this shelter.

Trebinje Mayor, Mirko Ćurić, met Barritt yesterday, when they visited the shalter.

Barritt expressed his satisfaction with the way workers and volunteers take care of animals, announced the City Administration Trebinje.

"I am very satisfied over the shalter’s excellent operation. We came to visit our project and to determine what challenges there are and what we need to do next together with the mayor," said Barritt.

He promised to support the city in its efforts to ensure that as many dogs as possible are taken to the shelter, and then adopted, in order to approach solving the problem of stray dogs as efficiently as possible.

Ćurić said that the shelter is facing the capacity problem, so it was agreed during the visit that the solution to that problem will be approached without delay.

"We will solve this problem together. The shelter is overcrowded, and we still have abandoned dogs on the ground," said Ćurić, and added that the city is ready to continue the cooperation in order to make the shelter operate even better.

He appealed to animal owners to treat their pets responsibly, because there are cases when the owner decides that he no longer wants the dog and leaves it on the street.

"Also, if someone wants to have a dog, I recommend adopting instead of buying. We have healthy dogs here, socialized and ready for adoption," Ćurić pointed out.

Veterinary examinations in the shalter, care and nutrition are provided and financed by the city of Trebinje.
