ISTOČNI STARI GRAD, JANUARY 1 /SRNA/ – The Director of the Trebević Nature Park Mladen Samardžić told SRNA that the primary goal of preserving protected natural resources in this area is to maintain all their values with the aim of sustainable development, starting from air and water quality, plant cover and fauna, to overall environmental protection.
Samardžić points out that tourism is the most important economic activity in the Trebević Nature Park, which should be further developed, while the main objective remains the preservation of this area, which has great natural value.
He noted that the growing saturation with conventional tourist offers is opening opportunities for today’s tourists to turn toward tourism in rural areas with unique natural surroundings.
"It is necessary to influence the promotion of the natural asset Trebević in every sense and in various directions, one of the ways is the engagement of experts in this field," Samardžić stated.
Samardžić emphasized that Trebević is home to a large number of tourist attractions thanks to which this mountain can become the most desirable destination of the City of Istočno Sarajevo, owing to its beautiful viewpoints, caves, health trails, via ferratas, the gorges of the Paljanska Miljacka River, walks along the narrow-gauge railway /cycling path/, and suspension bridges.
A special gem, he has noted, are anthropogenic sites such as the old town of Pavlovac, medieval tombstones that follow the ancient Roman road, the remains of Austro-Hungarian fortifications, and the Orthodox church at Luke.
Samardžić added that the Sarajevo-Romanija region is widely known for its gastronomic offer, and that high-quality service by the local population, distinctive food, customs, and a recognisable brand can themselves serve as unique souvenirs.
"There is not enough accommodation capacity in the Trebević area, which might be the weakest component of this destination. In this regard, it is necessary to develop cultural and event-based tourism through the affirmation of the area's natural and man-made values, sports and recreational tourism through the arrangement and construction of appropriate facilities, as well as sports schools and nature schools, in order to bring the nature park closer to children in the best possible way," Samardžić believes.
Samardžić considers that events such as the "Trebević Trail," organised by the Orlovača Speleological and Ecological Society and the Trebević Nature Park, "In the Footsteps of the Bear," as well as the training of young ecologists, have given strong impetus to the development of tourism in this area.
According to him, these events are organised with the aim of making the Trebević Nature Park, as one of the natural and tourist gems of Istočno Sarajevo, a gathering place for mountain lovers, and of teaching children from an early age to live in harmony with nature.
