EAST SARAJEVO, MAY 6 /SRNA/ - The Institute of Historical Sciences of the East Sarajevo University published the first scientific monograph on the genocide of the Sarajevo Serbs by the Independent State of Croatia in 1941, authored by Professor Draga Mastilović, director of this institution.

The monograph is based on thousands of primary historical sources from several archival institutions, the Institute of Historical Sciences of the East Sarajevo University announced.

The statements adds that research has shown that the Serb population of Sarajevo and its surroundings was exposed to a systematic and planned genocide in 1941, in which both adult men and the elderly, women and children were mercilessly killed.

The monograph entitled "Sarajevo 1941" listed more than a thousand victims of the NDH genocide against Sarajevo Serbs in 1941 by name, as well as a large number of names of their killers.

Hundreds of Serbs from Sarajevo were taken to the infamous concentration camps Gospić, Kruščica and Jasenovac, a large number of whom were brutally killed in numerous execution sites in Sarajevo and the surrounding villages.

One of the most massive execution sites was in Ilijaš, which according to historical sources, was an execution ground for approximately 400 Serb civilians, some from Sarajevo and its surrounding villages, some from other places in eastern and central Bosnia.

Mass slaughter of the Serb population by the Ustasha and their followers in Sarajevo was carried out in the villages around Sarajevo - Reljevo, Rakovica, Blažuj, Drozgometva, Malešići and others.

Promotions of this and other editions of the Institute of Historical Sciences of the University of East Sarajevo will soon be organised, about which the public will be informed in a timely manner, reads the statement.
