BANJA LUKA, May 13 /SRNA/ – The Speaker of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska, Nenad Stevandić, announced that a special session of the Assembly will be held tomorrow regarding the veto of the Serb member and Chairperson of the BiH Presidency, Željka Cvijanović, on the disputed conclusions adopted by Presidency members Denis Bećirović and Željko Komšić.
“Bećirović and Komšić are trying to deepen the political crisis in BiH with their actions, which will not be allowed,” Stevandić told reporters after the session of the Collegium of the National Assembly.
He stated that the special session will begin at 4:00 PM and will address a single item on the agenda – the proposal to confirm the statement of the Serb member of the Presidency declaring that the conclusion adopted at the 22nd regular session of the BiH Presidency on May 12 was made without consensus.
“It is extremely damaging to the vital interests of Republika Srpska,” Stevandić emphasized.
He stressed that EUFOR must not be drawn into the local political crisis in BiH.
“The opposition – SDS and PDP – voted in favor of the agenda of the special session. As for their support of Cvijanović’s veto, I believe they are not that unintelligent to vote against it, because by doing so they would destroy their political rating and position within the Serb people, by siding with Bećirović and Komšić against the Serb member of the Presidency,” Stevandić said.
He noted that any imposition by the illegal High Representative in BiH, Christian Schmidt, is unacceptable.
“We have internationalized the issue of Schmidt. We are moving toward the verification of Republika Srpska’s competences and, among other things, to protect our property,” Stevandić said.
He added that the agenda for the 14th regular session of the National Assembly has been set, with 15 proposed items, though some changes in legislative deadlines are still possible.
Serb member and Chairperson of the BiH Presidency, Željka Cvijanović, was outvoted during the Presidency session, as the other two members, Denis Bećirović and Željko Komšić, adopted a series of controversial conclusions. Among them was a call for EUFOR to assist police agencies in BiH in arresting officials of Republika Srpska.
After Cvijanović announced at the session that she would declare the conclusions harmful to the vital interests of Republika Srpska, the FBiH Presidency members expressed hope during the discussion that now, following the formation of a "Troika" coalition from Republika Srpska and FBiH, the opposition in the National Assembly of Republika Srpska would refuse to support the veto of the Serb member of the Presidency.
