BANJA LUKA, FEBRUARY 26 /SRNA/ - A delegation of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska visited Szentendre today, a unique cultural, spiritual, and historical center of Serbs in Hungary, and agreed during the meeting with representatives of the local community that Republika Srpska will issue a postage stamp featuring motifs of this city.
At the meeting, it was concluded that issuing a joint postage stamp represents a lasting cultural symbol of the Serbian Days event, as well as a contribution to greater visibility of Serbian cultural heritage in Hungary.
This contributes to stronger connections between the institutions and cultural spheres of Serbia, Republika Srpska, and the Serbian community in Hungary, according to a statement from the National Assembly of Republika Srpska.
The delegation of the National Assembly included MPs Milica Lovrić, Maja Dragojević Stojić, Aleksandar Trninić, and Siniša Mijatović.
Szentendre is a unique town where, for centuries, the spiritual, artistic, and educational foundations of the Serbian community in Hungary were established.
The town is home to the Cathedral Church dedicated to the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos and the Serbian Ecclesiastical Museum, which contains a large number of preserved icons and other church artifacts.
The motifs of Szentendre's churches, as well as the iconographic and ecclesiastical artistic heritage of the Serbian Ecclesiastical Museum, carry strong symbolism for the entire Serbian cultural sphere, both in the homeland and in the diaspora, the statement added.
