WASHINGTON, AUGUST 7 /SRNA – RIA Novosti/ – US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that an agreement with Iran on a ceasefire lasting 30 to 60 days could be reached soon.
"I believe we will soon, perhaps even today or tomorrow, see a 30- to 60-day ceasefire agreement, and the Strait of Hormuz will be open," Bessent told 12 News.
US President Donald Trump said last week that he had called off planned strikes on Iran due to the possibility of reaching an agreement that would, among other things, provide for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and an agreement on Iran’s nuclear programme.
The Axios portal reported on Wednesday, citing unnamed regional sources and a US official, that the United States, Iran and Oman were close to reaching an interim agreement to restore shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
