BANJA LUKA, APRIL 10 /SRNA/ - The President of the Organization of Republika Srpska Army Commanders Slobodan Župljanin called on all relevant subjects in Republika Srpska, Serbia, the region and the world to do everything necessary to protect the health and lives of the former commander of the Republika Srpska Army, Ratko Mladić, and the first president of Republika Srpska, Radovan Karadžić.

"The inhuman and inhumane treatment of General Mladić and the former President of Srpska Radovan Karadžić by the detention and prison units of the so-called democratic West represents the grossest violation of international law, especially humanitarian law, which is guaranteed by the UN Charter and the European Convention on Human Rights and Freedoms," Župljanin emphasized.

According to him, the non-provision of appropriate medical assistance and the general isolation and inability to communicate, even with members of the closest family, were not so flagrantly violated even in the darkest periods of human history, the organization announced.

"To refuse to provide appropriate medical assistance and proper treatment for a long time, and even today, is radically endangering the life of General Mladić, and the situation is no better in the case of Karadžić either," Župljanin pointed out.

He stated that there is no justified basis in any international document or practice in the application of criminal sanctions, which would give the right to such behavior towards people who were only doing their historical task in defending and protecting their own people from complete destruction and disappearance from these areas.

"What General Mladić and Karadžić did in the Defensive-Patriotic War can certainly be characterized as human and humanitarian activity in that war compared to what the commanders and highest power holders of the states are doing today in the current war hotspots in the world and the region," Župljanin emphasized.

Župljanin concluded that a tragic incident and a terrible crime that happened in and around Srebrenica, for which they were convicted, among other things, cannot be the reason that, in addition to the punishment they are serving, they are also experiencing unprecedented torture and mistreatment, which includes the refusal to provide appropriate medical assistance, to which every medical worker is bound by the Hippocratic Oath, according to the statement of the Organization of the Commanders of the Republika Srpska Army.
