BANJA LUKA, JULY 10 /SRNA/ - Tonight, the Palace of the Republic is illuminated to mark 170 years since the birth of the greatest Serbian and global scientist, Nikola Tesla.
The Office of the President of Republika Srpska announced earlier that today marks a great jubilee—one hundred and seventy years since the birth of Nikola Tesla, one of the greatest minds humanity has ever produced.
"We pay tribute to the man whose creativity changed the face of the world, but we also reaffirm our commitment to the ideals to which Tesla dedicated his entire life—knowledge, creativity, humanism, and belief in the limitless possibilities of the human spirit," the statement reads.
One of the greatest minds of the 20th century, the Serbian scientist Nikola Tesla was born on this day, July 10, 1856, in Smiljan, Lika, and died in Manhattan on Christmas Day, 1943, at the age of 87.
Tesla discovered the rotating magnetic field, the three-phase system of electrical power transmission, the induction motor, the generator and transformer, and the phenomenon of electromagnetic resonance. He also patented a series of inventions upon which modern electronics are based, without which technical civilization would be inconceivable, especially the transmission of electrical energy.
He is also a pioneer of radio technology, wireless telegraphy, and radar. He patented around 700 inventions in the fields of alternating current, telecommunications, acoustics, and mechanical engineering, many of which have found wide application. /end/bv/ach
