BANJA LUKA, JUNE 22 /SRNA/ – The Serb member and Chairperson of the BiH Presidency, Željka Cvijanović, stated that Operation Corridor was a symbol of the heroic struggle of the Serb people for freedom and survival in these areas, as well as a reminder of the feats that could be achieved through unity.
Cvijanović emphasized that by breaking through the vital corridor toward Serbia and linking the eastern and western parts of Republika Srpska, life was breathed into Republika Srpska.
She pointed out that this battle is a reminder of what Serbs are capable of when they are united, cohesive, and gathered around national interests and their Republika Srpska.
“Eternal glory and gratitude to all our heroes who selflessly paved the path to freedom with their sacrifice. Let the memory of this magnificent operation live on! Long live Republika Srpska, in peace and freedom,” Cvijanović posted on Instagram.
The military operation “Corridor 92” lasted from June 14 to 28 in the Posavina region and enabled the connection of the western parts of Srpska and Republika Srpska Krajina with the rest of Srpska and Serbia.
According to the Republic Center for Research of War, War Crimes and Search for Missing Persons, at least 855 soldiers of the Republika Srpska Army were killed in the operation, along with 14 members of the Srpska Interior Ministry, and 19 members of the police and army of Republika Srpska Krajina. More than 1,500 Serb fighters were wounded.
The operation was prompted directly by the deaths of 12 infants in the Banja Luka maternity hospital due to a lack of oxygen, and it ended a 42-day land and air blockade of the western parts of Srpska and Republika Srpska Krajina.
