NUŽDIĆ: CROATIA COMMITTED AGGRESSION ON BROD 33 YEARS AGO

SIJEKOVAC, MARCH 26 /SRNA/ - Croatia committed aggression 33 years ago on Brod and Serb village Sijekovac, whose civilians were killed just because they were Serbs, said acting Director of the Republic Center for Research on War, War Crimes and Search for Missing Persons Viktor Nuždić.

He pointed out that it is absurd that no one except Zemir Kovačević was held accountable for this crime, although there is a lot of evidence.

"The crime in Sijekovac was one of the first mass crimes that happened in BiH, and the crime is still without punishment," Nuždić told the press in Sijekovac, where he attends the commemoration of 33 years since the suffering of the Serbs in this place.

In the first war crime committed on the territory of BiH, nine Serbs were killed in an hour, most of them members of the Milošević and Zečević families.

On March 26, 1992, members of the regular Croatian army, together with paramilitary Croat-Muslim units from BiH and Croatia, killed nine Serb civilians in Sijekovac, and another 37 Serbs in the following days.

The occupation by Croatian forces ended on October 7, 1992, when General Slavko Lisica liberated the area of the municipality of Brod with a carefully planned military operation.
