BANJA LUKA, NOVEMBER 6 /SRNA/ – All 126 Serb soldiers captured at Glođansko Brdo, near Zvornik, were mutilated, none died from gunshot wounds, Branka Živković testified while recounting the death of her 24-year-old brother, Mićo Tešić.

During the identification process, Živković was forced to confront the remains of most of the victims who were killed at Glođansko Brdo.

Based on the wounds she was able to observe on the bodies of the deceased, she concluded that none had been killed by gunfire and that all had been subjected to brutal torture.

"God forbid! It was horrific... I do not know what kind of people, what kind of monsters, could have done something like that. They were hanged from oak trees and nailed up like Jesus Christ. You could see two nails in each oak tree, showing that people had been nailed by their hands and feet," Živković recounted in her testimony for the Memorial Centre of Republika Srpska.

Živković was required to attend the identification of her missing brother, who was captured at Glođansko Brdo during the night of November 5-6, 1992.

"If he had died from a gunshot wound, it would have been easier for me," she said.

Many families lost their loved ones on that fateful day, November 6, 1992. Their pain has not diminished; instead, it grows stronger with each passing day.

A large number of the torture victims were young men who had only just begun their lives. Instead of joy, devastation was left behind. Homes fell silent and hearts were deeply wounded. Those left behind continued to die one by one, carrying pain and trauma that even the passage of years has failed to ease, the Memorial Centre said.

A memorial service for the brutally murdered Serb soldiers will be held at Glođansko Brdo today, while tomorrow, on the Orthodox Mitrovdan Memorial Saturday, a general memorial service for all fallen and deceased soldiers from the Zvornik area will be held at the Cathedral Church in Zvornik.

The Podrinje region has not been spared suffering in any war. The Drina River, an eternal resting place for Serb victims, carries in every drop the memory of those who perished in Podrinje throughout the 20th century, the Memorial Centre of Republika Srpska recalled.
