BANJA LUKA, MARCH 30 /SRNA/ - The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of Republika Srpska Savo Minić told SRNA that the current situation at certain water levels is serious, but not alarming, and that the authorities are monitoring the situation and taking appropriate measures.

"We still have Gradiška as a potential problem. There are cracks in Kozarska Dubica due to the high water level on the Sava embankment, but an order has been given to take appropriate measures. This embankment was last built 10 years ago, which is good, but one should be careful," said Minić.

He added that the situation in Prijedor was difficult due to water overflowing over the defensive wall, but that at this moment the most important thing is to provide support to citizens who cannot be in their homes.

Minić announced that next week there will be a complete analysis of everything that has been done in flood protection, which has had positive effects, as well as what needs to be done urgently, especially when it comes to the rivers in the area of Prijedor.

"There is nothing you can do without it being a permanent solution and saying that we are safe for all time. We have already had something that exceeds hundred-year waters on several occasions, but we must continue to take measures and go one step forward," said Minić.

He emphasized that everything that has been done in the past years in the water management department contributed to the fact that this time there will be no significant problems in the area of Doboj and Bijeljina.

"We haven't had any significant spills, let alone endangering human lives," said Minić and stated that it will be possible to say that the floods are behind us only in a few days.

He emphasized that the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, insisted that damages related to agriculture be resolved as soon as possible.

"Maybe now it is too early to talk about damage to agricultural crops, but we know that what is related to agricultural buildings and livestock will be dealt with urgently, and later we will see if and to what extent there was damage to crops. However, the emphasis is on family houses and the urgent reconstruction and return of people to their homes," Minić concluded.
