BELGRADE, NOVEMBER 6 /SRNA/ – It is tragic that no one has been punished for the crime against 126 Serb soldiers on Glođansko Brdo near Zvornik, and that no one has been held responsible for their torture and killing, said Miodrag Linta, president of the Union of Serbs from the Region.
Speaking about the crime committed on November 6, 1992, by members of the so-called Army of BiH under the command of Naser Orić, Linta said members of the Zvornik and Šekovići brigades of the Army of Republika Srpska /RSA/ had been captured, tortured and killed in the most brutal way.
"Even after 34 years, no one has answered for this horrific crime, which is yet more proof of the deep injustice done to Serb victims and their families," Linta said in a statement.
He said witness accounts and medical findings confirming the brutality of the crime and the unimaginable cruelty inflicted on the victims were especially harrowing.
"Glođansko Brdo is one of the most tragic sites of Serb suffering in Podrinje. It is the duty of all of us to preserve the memory of the innocent soldiers who were killed, to speak their names with the deepest respect and to pass on the truth about their tragic fate to future generations," Linta said.
He said it was especially painful that the remains of nine Serb soldiers were still being sought, denying their loved ones the right to a dignified burial and peace.
"The silence of the judicial institutions and the lack of justice are a further humiliation for the victims' families and deepen distrust in the BiH judiciary. That is why crimes against Serbs have remained without a court verdict for decades," Linta said.
He said the BiH Prosecutor's Office had not launched a serious and thorough investigation to establish the responsibility of the perpetrators and those who ordered the crime and to ensure that all those responsible were brought to justice.
"Glođansko Brdo must remain a lasting warning about the suffering of the Serb people and a symbol of our duty to persevere in the fight for truth and justice. There can be no reconciliation without establishing the truth, acknowledging all victims and punishing those responsible for crimes, regardless of their ethnicity," Linta said.
The 34th anniversary of the killing of 126 members of the Army of Republika Srpska, brutally killed by members of the so-called Army of BiH on November 6, 1992, was marked today on Glođansko Brdo near Zvornik.
