BIJELJINA, AUGUST 25 /SRNA/ - Director of Bijeljina’s Sveti Vračevi Hospital Mikajlo Lazić said that today was a significant day for the institution, as a state-of-the-art 128-slice scanner was put into operation, which uses a lower radiation dose and operates much faster, and was purchased with funds provided by the Republika Srpska Government.
Lazić stressed that the scanner features advanced technology, as in addition to conventional imaging, it offers more sophisticated capabilities and programmes such as CT coronary angiography and angiography, as well as additional artificial intelligence-based software used for brain imaging.
"The scanner is low-dose, meaning it uses a lower radiation dose, and it operates much faster," Lazić told the press in Bijeljina after officially putting the new equipment into operation together with Republika Srpska Prime Minister Savo Minić and Minister of Health and Social Welfare Alen Šeranić.
Lazić said that Bijeljina Hospital is now the only secondary-level hospital to have two 128-slice scanners.
"However, all of this is a small thing compared with the new hospital project, which has been approved by the Republika Srpska Government. The last time the prime minister was here, we opened the laboratory, and at that time it seemed like science fiction. However, thanks to the swift action of the Republika Srpska Government, we have now reached the stage of launching this initiative," Lazić said.
He stressed that BAM 125 million had been allocated to begin construction of the new hospital.
"I am immensely grateful to the Ministry of Health and the Republika Srpska Government," Lazić said.
On August 13, the Republika Srpska Government adopted information on the initiative to expand the hospital’s facilities and construct a new facility for Sveti Vračevi Hospital in Bijeljina.
The hospital's capacity will be increased by 188 beds, bringing the total to 434 beds, while the estimated size of the new building required for this purpose is 14,500 square meters.
