BUDAPEST, August 6 /SRNA/ - President of the Self-Government of Serbs in Hungary Jovanka Lastić sent a letter of support to President of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik following the decision of the Appellate Division of the Court of BiH to uphold the first-instance verdict for allegedly "failing to comply with the decisions of the High Representative," stating that this is part of an orchestrated political campaign aimed at punishing the President's consistent efforts to protect the constitution
In the letter, Lastić expressed deep concern and indignation over the decision, stating that a grave injustice had been done not only to the President of Srpska and Serbs in Republika Srpska, but to all Serbs worldwide.
SRNA publishes the full letter of support from Jovanka Lastić, President of the Self-Government of Serbs in Hungary, to President Dodik:
"I am convinced this is a politically motivated and undemocratic ruling, directed not only against you, but also against Republika Srpska and the Serbian people as a whole. The verdict is part of a coordinated political campaign intended to punish your unwavering efforts to safeguard the constitutional powers and the rights of the people of Republika Srpska. You are being tried for a non-existent crime for signing a law that defends the constitutional order and the spirit of the Dayton Agreement, which in any legally sound system cannot be deemed a criminal act.
I am encouraged by the clear stance taken by both the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Hungary on this matter: both countries have refused to recognize this verdict, which lacks any legal basis, acknowledging it as politically driven and unjust.
I am particularly heartened by the support expressed by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who publicly declared that Hungary will not accept the court's ruling against you. He emphasized that you were convicted solely because you refused to act under someone else's dictate and instead defended the will of your people.
This strong support from both our homeland and our kin-state strengthens my optimism and reinforces my belief that justice is on your side.
I have followed your work for many years and appreciate your statesmanlike conduct and unwavering fight to preserve the rights and autonomy of Republika Srpska within the Dayton framework.
You are the legitimately elected representative of the Serbian people in BiH and, as such, enjoy the respect and support of Serbs wherever they may live. I want you to know that in these difficult moments, you are not alone, Serbs in Hungary stand in solidarity with you and our people in Republika Srpska. I join the many voices condemning this ruling and calling for an end to the persecution of political dissenters.
With hope that justice and truth will ultimately prevail, I encourage you to remain steadfast in your fight for your rights and the rights of the Serbian people. I am confident that history will affirm the righteousness of your actions and that this political injustice will be overcome."
