BANJA LUKA, MAY 27 /SRNA/ - Republika Srpska has managed to balance its international relations in a way few others can, as demonstrated by meetings between its officials and top-ranking representatives of the United States, Russia and Israel, Serb delegate in the House of Peoples of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly Radovan Kovačević has stressed.
Kovačević stressed that there is growing understanding in both Moscow and Washington for Republika Srpska's position that international interventionism in BiH should come to an end.
"Both in Moscow and in Washington, they say that the time has come for an end to international interventionism and imposed decisions in BiH, and for domestic leaders to take over decision-making and responsibility. That is exactly what we in Republika Srpska, led by Milorad Dodik, have been saying for decades", Kovačević said.
According to him, the leadership of Republika Srpska headed by Dodik refused to accept policies aimed at eliminating Republika Srpska's identity and competencies, which resulted in sanctions, pressure and threats.
"We were targeted because we did not allow them to implement policies aimed at making Republika Srpska disappear and turning all of us into 'wonderful Bosnians and Herzegovinians' who would forget our identities and rights and ultimately forget the 25,000 heroes who gave their lives for Republika Srpska. We did not allow that," Kovačević, who is also the SNSD spokesperson, told RTRS.
He stressed that Dodik had the vision to be among the first to openly support Donald Trump, adding that relations between the United States and Republika Srpska improved after Trump came to power.
Kovačević said relations with the United States during the presidencies of Barack Obama and Joe Biden had been "absolutely hostile" toward Republika Srpska and that former US ambassador to BiH Michael Murphy had pursued an anti-Serb politics.
