ISTOČNO SARAJEVO, SEPTEMBER 14 /SRNA/ – Ambassador of the Russian Federation to BiH Igor Kalabukhov has said this evening that he was honoured to receive a Charter from the University of Istočno Sarajevo and that he will continue working to improve cooperation and strengthen ties between the Serb and Russian peoples.

Kalabukhov expressed satisfaction with his good cooperation with the leadership of the University of Istočno Sarajevo, which also maintains strong ties with partners in the Russian Federation.

“I am honoured to have become one of the university’s laureate. The Embassy will work together with the University of Istočno Sarajevo to make our cooperation and our ties even deeper, to the benefit of young people and the people of Republika Srpska and the Russian Federation,” Kalabukhov told the press in Istočno Sarajevo.

Goran Maksimović, nephew of academician Vojislav Maksimović, the first rector of the University of Istočno Sarajevo, said that the unveiling of a bust of his uncle today was an important moment for the family and thanked everyone who supported the idea and helped make it a reality.

He said that, in addition to the numerous missions his uncle carried out for Republika Srpska and the Serb people, the university in what was then Srpsko Sarajevo, and is now Istočno Sarajevo, was one of the crowning achievements of his national and academic mission.

“When we look at the Rectorate building of the University of Istočno Sarajevo, and the faculty buildings spread across different cities, I believe that this mission has been largely fulfilled. Today, we are in a position to realize and bring closer all those ideas that perhaps seemed distant and unattainable in 1992, for the benefit of the Serb people, and above all, of young people, so that they can receive an education and grow and advance together with the university,” Maksimović concluded.

As part of the celebration of University Day and the 34th anniversary of the establishment and successful work of this higher-education institution, a formal academic ceremony was held at the Republika Srpska Government’s Administrative Centre in Istočno Sarajevo. Awards were presented to individuals who have made an immeasurable contribution to the development of the university and the promotion of its reputation, as well as to the best students and researchers.
