KOVAČEVIĆ: LIFTING OF US SANCTIONS’ MAIN MESSAGE - STRUGGLE FOR SRPSKA NOW OFFICIALLY LEGALIZED

BANJA LUKA, OCTOBER 30 /SRNA/ – The main message of the lifting of US sanctions lies in the fact that the struggle for Republika Srpska is now officially legalized, because the sanctions imposed on the Republika Srpska leadership, headed by President Milorad Dodik, were imposed primarily because they dared to defend the interests of Srpska and the Serb constituent people in BiH, and to oppose the concept of centralizing BiH, said SNSD spokesperson Radovan Kovačević.

"It is highly important to understand that Milorad Dodik was ready, together with the other Republika Srpska leadership members, to bear any personal sacrifice in order for Republika Srpska itself would not become a victim. In doing so, he successfully bought time for Republika Srpska, preserving all its powers and autonomy until this moment, when the US administration, much more favourable for Republika Srpska’s interests, has taken office," Kovačević emphasized in a statement to SRNA.

He has explained that this does not mean that Republika Srpska will now be privileged, but that it will finally have equal status, which is all that has ever been requested.

"Do not reward others for violating the Dayton Peace Agreement, while sanctioning us for defending it, i.e. for defending what matters most - the status of Republika Srpska and the guaranteed status of the constituent and equal people in BiH," Kovačević stated.
