ŠAMAC, JULY 21 /SRNA/ - In the area of the Šamac municipality, hunting and fishing tourism, due to the exceptional natural resources of the Bosna and Sava rivers, and the Tišina Pond, attracts foreign tourists as well, and many people from Šamac believe that this branch should be supported even more.

It is known that tourists from Italy come in large numbers in August to hunt quail and stay in the area for a while. They make friends and hunt together with members of the Fazan Hunting Association from Šamac.

FISHING

Fishing tourism is developed on the Sava and Bosna rivers. The Sport Fishing Association holds international lure fishing events twice a year, where participants compete in cooking fish and hang out on the river banks.

Last year, an International Lure Fishing Competition was held on the Sava in Šamac, with more than 80 anglers from Serbia, Croatia and BiH participating, and it is significant that members of the Association of People with Special Needs also joined in.

This competition promotes the natural potential, primarily of the Sava, which is one of the symbols of the city.

JEKIĆA LAKES - OASIS OF PEACE AND BEAUTY IN OBUDOVAC

One of the popular fishing areas, Jekića Lakes in Obudovac, covers the area of seven hectares. The lakes also contain carp, pike, catfish, perch, bream, common bream, and some types of eels.

The lakes are irregularly shaped, which, together with the surrounding nature, creates an amazingly beautiful unity, with houses with a barbecue canopy and video cameras, internet, water, electricity, and everything necessary for the stay of tourists.

The lakes are taken care of by the Ekob Ecological Association. The lakes have been ready for tourists since 2009 and sport fishing takes place on them. Tourists come from Germany, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, and every year in August a kettle festival is held on the lakes.

PROTECTED TIŠINA POND

Tišina Pond is the last preserved wetland along the Sava River in Republika Srpska and BiH.

The Tišina Wetland and Marsh Complex consists of the wetlands and marshes Mala Tišina, Velika Tišina /after which the entire complex is named/, the Odmut Pond and the occasional Žandrak Stream.

By decision of the Government of the Republika Srpska, this natural complex was declared a protected habitat of the fourth category.

The wetland represents an opportunity for development because traditional livestock farming, basketry and branding of such methods of economy are increasingly gaining importance.

It is the habitat of many endangered species of birds /about 130 species/, aquatic plants /175 species/ and fish /20 species/. Such areas are important for mitigating climate change, floods and water purification, and at the same time enable the development of tourism for photographers, hikers and fishermen.

Six types of habitats are protected throughout the EU, which sufficiently illustrates the natural wealth of this area. This is the last remaining continental wetland in the entire BiH, in the floodplain of the Sava River.

EVENT TOURISM

This area is also known for events such as "Šamačko Ljeto" and "Čarolija na Ušću," which is held in the city square seven days before the New Year's Eve.

The Fair of Honey, Food and Traditional Products has been held for 11 years and is one of the oldest events, always accompanied by a large turnout of exhibitors from all over Srpska and the Federation of BiH, as well as Croatia and Serbia.
