CVIJANOVIĆ: MASSACRE IN SIJEKOVAC - UNDENIABLE ACT OF AGGRESSION AND FIRST MASS WAR CRIME IN TERRITORY OF BiH

EAST SARAJEVO, MARCH 26 /SRNA/ - The Serbian member and Chairwoman of the BiH Presidency Željka Cvijanović said that exactly 33 years have passed since the crime committed against Serbs in the village of Sijekovac near Brod, and that this massacre was the first mass war crime in the territory of BiH, a crime against peace and an undeniable act of aggression in which the regular Croatian military forces participated.

"The youngest victim of this brutal crime in Sijekovac was only 17 years old, and the oldest was 72. Both the domestic and international judiciary should be ashamed that only one criminal has been definitively convicted for the murders and torture of civilians of Sijekovac," Cvijanović told SRNA on the occasion of marking 33 years since the suffering of the Serbian residents of Sijekovac.

She emphasized that many others have never been prosecuted, even though the names of most participants in the crime are well known to both the public and the families of the victims, as well as the judicial authorities.

"Serbs have long learned that no one will mourn or remember our victims except for ourselves. That is why we have no right to forget, because only by learning from the lessons of the past can we build a better, safer, and more peaceful future for Republika Srpska and the generations to come," Cvijanović said.
