TREBINJE, JUNE 25 /SRNA/ – Former Governor of the U.S. state of Illinois Rod Blagojevich visited Trebinje today, where he and Mayor Mirko Ćurić toured the Tvrdoš Monastery and the Monastery of Saint Vasilije of Ostrog and Tvrdoš in Mrkonjići.
Blagojevich said he felt like he was in paradise in Trebinje.
“Before Trebinje, I visited Gacko, the birthplace of my grandmother and grandfather, and met relatives I didn’t even know I had. Trebinje is a beautiful city, and the Tvrdoš Monastery is not only stunning but also steeped in profound history. After the tour, I tried their ‘Vranac’ wine. My impressions are very positive here, I feel not just the presence of history but the presence of God,” said Blagojevich.
Speaking from personal experience in politics, Blagojevich noted that one can never please everyone, but that the people of Trebinje are lucky to have Mirko Ćurić as their mayor—a man who loves this city and its citizens.
Blagojevich, a close associate of U.S. President Donald Trump, added that he plans to return to Trebinje with his wife and two daughters.
Ćurić welcomed Blagojevich and thanked him for the visit, which he described as highly significant for Republika Srpska.
“After visiting Tvrdoš Monastery, we also toured the monastery in Mrkonjići. This visit is very important for Republika Srpska, Herzegovina, and Trebinje. We hope to establish cooperation, to our mutual satisfaction,” said Ćurić.
Blagojevich arrived in Republika Srpska on Sunday, July 22, at the invitation of Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik.
In recent days, Blagojevich has met with the highest officials of Republika Srpska, offering them strong support.
