BILEĆA, SEPTEMBER 12 /SRNA/ - Bileća Lake, nearby necropolis of ancient medieval tombstones, and the church dedicated to St. Archangel Michael in Trnov Do, where, according to tradition, the army of Duke Vlatko Vuković received the Holy Communion before leaving for the Battle of Kosovo, are some of the tourist attractions of the municipality of Bileća.
The necropolis of ancient medieval tombstones on the plateau near Bileća Lake was located there when they were pulled out of the Trebišnjica valley after its submergence and the creation of this artificial lake.
"The necropolis of ancient medieval tombstones is historically very significant and testifies to how long life has been in this area," said Tamara Tabaković, director of the Bileća Tourist Organization, to SRNA.
In the heart of Bileća Lake, there is a small island with a church dedicated to the Holy Prophet Elijah, which is visited by many people on St. Elijah Day, traveling by boat.
"It is possible to rent a boat and visit the island and the church, as well as the Grančarevo dam on Bileća Lake," Tabaković pointed out.
There is a beach called Čepelica on Bileća Lake, which the people of Bileća and tourists enjoy visiting during hot summer days.
"Fishing is developed, although insufficiently, and various fishing tours are available," Tabaković said, recalling that catfish competitions, competitions in catching the largest catfish, are also organized.
She stated that Bileća Lake represents the municipality's greatest untapped tourism potential.
LAZARICA CHURCH AND DOBRIĆEVO MONASTERY
Speaking about cultural heritage, she noted that the Lazarica church in Bileća and the Dobrićevo Monastery in the village of Orah, which was moved from the Trebišnjica valley after the formation of Bileća Lake, are also significant.
"The Cathedral of St. Sava in Bileća, which has been renovated and beautifully decorated recently, is also attractive to tourists," Tabaković added.
Tabaković recalled that Bileća is located at the crossroads of several roads leading to the sea, with a very pleasant climate, stating that there is a lot to see in the area of this municipality, but the tourist potential has not been sufficiently exploited, although work is being done in order to improve it.
According to her, gastro-tourism is developing, especially in restaurants along the shores of Bileća Lake, but also in other parts of the municipality.
The Bileća Tourist Organization, she pointed out, is also working on registering accommodation facilities and has more and more apartments for rent every day, although exact figures on annual tourist visits have not yet been determined. /to be continued/
