BIJELJINA, MAY 18 /SRNA/ - On May 19, 1992, the Presidency of the Serbian Republic of BiH proclaimed the Law on the Army of the Serbian Republic of BiH /later the Army of Republika Srpska/, thereby establishing the legal framework for an army that, following the withdrawal of the Yugoslav People’s Army /JNA/, remained to protect the vital interests of Serbs in the former BiH.
The Republika Srpska Army existed from May 12, 1992, until January 1, 2006, after which it became part of the Armed Forces of BiH.
The military heritage and identity of the Army of Republika Srpska are preserved by the 3rd Infantry /Republika Srpska/ Regiment.
The patron saint's day of the Republika Srpska Army was Vidovdan /St. Vitus Day/, while May 12 is celebrated as the Day of the Army of Republika Srpska and the 3rd Infantry /Republika Srpska/ Regiment.
