DOBOJ, DECEMBER 7 /SRNA/ – The 17th Intercity Exhibition of Small Animals was held in Doboj, featuring special exhibitions of Bačka’s Tumbler pigeons and Džudža bantam hens.
The event was organised by the “Dobojski Odgajivač” Society for the Breeding and Protection of Small Animals. Its head, Edin Mujkanović, said that during the two-day exhibition, breeders from Republika Srpska and the Federation of BiH presented 180 high-quality Bačka’s Tumbler pigeons.
Judges noted that they were pleased with the quality of the exhibition, adding that the Bačka’s Tumbler is a difficult breed to raise because, due to its physical traits, it cannot feed its young on its own. This requires constant supervision and the breeder’s daily presence.
Judge Dragan Dragojević from Gradiška highlighted the short beak, head shape, and strong body as key characteristics, while judge Milovan Martić from Derventa said that the Bačka’s Tumbler must display a unique and proud posture, similar to a falcon; otherwise, it loses its championship qualities.
The secretary of the Doboj Society, Adis Ajanović, said that the Džudža bantam hen from Doboj is on a good path to being recognised as an autochthonous breed by the Standards Commission of the European Association for the Breeding and Protection of Small Animals as early as 2027.
He reminded that the Džudža hen was recognised as an autochthonous species last year by the Standards Commission of the BiH Association for the Breeding and Protection of Small Animals, after a recognition process that lasted nearly 13 years.
