LJUBLJANA, NOVEMBER 5 /SRNA/ – The body of a 19-year-old man from Serbia has been found on Triglav after a search that lasted several days.
The Mountain Rescue Service of Slovenia said the rescue operation in the Triglav area had ended and the missing person had been found dead, Slovenian media reported.
"We extend our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones," the rescue service said.
The young man was a student in Ljubljana. He set out alone for the summit of Triglav on Saturday, October 31, while the weather was still fine.
The weather worsened the next day. Strong winds picked up and conditions in the mountains became very difficult.
Dense fog, wind and darkness left him stranded on the very demanding Plemenice route, and he called for help.
Rescuers launched an operation immediately, but the bad weather meant they could not count on a helicopter.
On Monday, November 2, rescuers found items belonging to the young man at an altitude of about 2,130 meters, and tracks in the snow were spotted later that day. The weather had hampered the search in recent days.
