BELGRADE, SEPTEMBER 9 /SRNA/ - President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić dissolved the National Assembly today and called parliamentary elections for October 25.

In an address to citizens, Vučić said he had made the decision based on a reasoned proposal from the Government and in accordance with the Constitution and the Law on the President of Serbia.

The deadlines for electoral activities begin on the day this decision enters into force, that is, on the day it is published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia.

Vučić said that he had always been guided by the vital interests of Serbia and its citizens.

"If there were no such tensions and political conflicts, elections would not be necessary. Any postponement would jeopardize EXPO and the survival of democracy in the country," Vučić said.

He added that the citizens of Serbia would have the opportunity to choose among many options, plans and people, and urged them to do so in a peaceful and dignified manner.

"The decision of the people is the voice of God and must be respected. Citizens should carefully consider whom they place their trust in, bearing in mind the political and economic situation around the world and its repercussions for Serbia," Vučić said.
