SPAJIĆ'S PARTY WILL NOT SUPPORT INITIATIVE TO REMOVE MANDIĆ FROM OFFICE

PODGORICA, SEPTEMBER 3 /SRNA/ - Montenegro's ruling Europe Now Movement, led by Prime Minister Milojko Spajić, will not support the initiative to remove Parliament Speaker Andrija Mandić from office over a condolence telegram he sent to the son of General Ratko Mladić.

"We will not support Mandić's removal. The Europe Now Movement was founded to ensure economic progress and a European future for our citizens," the party said in a statement.

The initiative to remove Mandić, who is also the leader of the New Serb Democracy party, was announced by the opposition Democratic Party of Socialists, Montenegrin media reported.

They were joined in supporting the initiative by the Croatian Initiative, Dritan Abazović's Civic Movement URA, and the Bosniak Party, led by Deputy Prime Minister Ervin Ibrahimović.

General Ratko Mladić, the wartime chief of the Main Staff of the Republika Srpska Army, has died at the age of 83 in the detention hospital in The Hague.

General Mladić had been held at the detention hospital in The Hague since 2024, where he had been bedridden for the past year and a half. The Hague Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals rejected requests for him to be released on humanitarian grounds so that he could receive treatment in Serbia.
