PALE, OCTOBER 19 /SRNA/ – Residents of Jelovci, the Municipality of Pale, organised an action to complete the finishing works on a memorial dedicated to 173 civilian victims brutally killed by the Ustasha in Jelovci and surrounding villages in November 1943, among whom were 63 children under the age of 14.

Completion of the memorial will bring to a close a series of activities aimed at preserving the memory of the innocent victims. In addition to constructing the memorial, these activities included producing a documentary film and publishing a commemorative volume entitled 80 Years of Silence – Ustasha Crimes in Rakovac and Jelovci, 1943–2023.

The Pale War Veterans Organisation stated that these activities had permanently documented the crimes committed against the Serb population in the area and preserved the memory of the victims for future generations.

Particular significance is attached to the involvement of Jelovci residents, who, through their personal contributions and collective efforts, demonstrated their commitment to preserving the historical heritage and culture of remembrance, which are important to both the local community and Republika Srpska.

A memorial service for the innocent victims will be held at the site in mid-November, according to the statement.
