SERBIAN PEOPLE IN SRPSKA CAN ALWAYS COUNT ON SUPPORT OF BELGRADE

BELGRADE, APRIL 28 /SRNA/ - The Serbian people in Republika Srpska can always count on the support of the city of Belgrade, said Belgrade Mayor Aleksandar Šapić, who today hosted the Mayor of Sokolac, Strahinja Bašević.

"As I said before, we are one people, and we must take care of each other. They can always count on Belgrade’s support, certainly while I am here, and I hope those who will come after me will treat our people in Republika Srpska in the same way," Šapić emphasized.

Bašević thanked Šapić for being the first Serbian official to visit the Mali Zejtinlik military cemetery in 2022 and lay a wreath in memory of around 1,000 Serbs who died in the Sarajevo battlefield.

He emphasized that this cemetery also reflects the scale of suffering of the Serbian people, as among the fallen soldiers, more than 400 were individuals who celebrated Miholjdan /Saint Cyriacus the Anchorite/, a patron saint’s day which was extinguished with their deaths in this region.

Bašević emphasized the importance of nurturing a culture of remembrance so that such evil, which the Serbian people experienced, never happens again.
