BELGRADE, APRIL 17 /SRNA/ – The US President's Special Envoy to Monitor and Combating Antisemitism Yehuda Kaploun, says it is extremely important to convey to people around the world the truth about the crimes committed in Jasenovac against Serbs, Jews, and Roma, stressing that nothing similar must ever be allowed to happen again.

Kaploun assessed that humanity has learned nothing from history, as antisemitism still exists and hatred is on the rise. “This must stop,” Kaploun emphasized.

He stresses it is very important for everyone who can to come to Donja Gradina on Sunday, April 19, to pay tribute to the victims and prove they are not forgotten.

"Those are not numbers; those were all individuals who had their lives ahead of them. Those were mothers, babies. As soon as you enter that area, you see the image of an 11-month-old baby who was killed.

What kind of brutality and evil allow such behaviour to happen? We must do more and do better to learn from history and to teach the world that this kind of behaviour cannot be tolerated," Kaploun said.

Addressing reporters in Belgrade ahead of the commemorative - educational gathering "The Truth about Jasenovac in the NDH /1941–1945/: Historical Perspectives, Remembrance and Documentation", Kaploun said that earlier this week he visited Auschwitz, where he saw the brutal conditions people imposed on one another, as well as the hatred and evil stemming from it.

"In order to bear witness to this, we must learn from history and remember those people who lived in a country where they wanted a better life, but were killed solely because of their religion," Kaploun said.

He emphasized that America wants the world to understand that President Donald Trump, from the day he took office, began implementing a policy under which antisemitism will not be tolerated anywhere and that there will be consequences.

"As a result, the role I have - to represent the U.S. President and the Secretary of State /Marco Rubio/ is to fight hatred. This is not only about antisemitism, but about all of us needing to be better people," Kaploun concluded.
