SOFIA, November 2 /SRNA–Reuters/ – Bulgaria’s acting President Iliana Iotova has won the second round of the presidential elections, according to results published by the Central Election Commission.
With 99.95 per cent of ballot papers counted, Iotova secured 57.58 per cent of the vote, or approximately 1.1 million votes, while her rival, Andrey Gyurov, received 39.47 per cent, or around 749,500 votes.
Approximately 2.95 per cent of voters selected the “I do not support anyone” option.
Iotova said that Gyurov had called her and congratulated her on her victory. In a speech following the announcement of the results, she criticised her opponents over what she described as a “campaign of applying pressure”.
Iotova, Bulgaria’s former Vice President, became acting President in January. She has the support of Prime Minister Rumen Radev.
