BELGRADE, OCTOBER 19 /SRNA/ – Miodrag Linta, chair of the Association of Serbs from the Region, says that the Nazi chants by football fans in Split were the result of Croatian society’s persistent refusal to eradicate the genocidal ideology of Ustashism, stressing that attempts to shift responsibility onto Serbia are extreme hypocrisy.
Linta emphasised that the Nazi orgies in Split were not the result of any alleged Serb orchestration, but rather of the persistent refusal of Croatian society to undergo a process of denazification, announced the Association of Serbs from the Region.
"Instead of clear condemnation and the establishment of responsibility, the well-known mechanism of shifting the blame onto Serbia is being activated once again," Linta pointed out, adding that there can be no good-neighbourly relations without Croatia sincerely and genuinely confronting its Nazi past.
He stressed that Serbia cannot be the permanent scapegoat for problems that Croatian society must address itself if it genuinely wishes to uphold European values.
On Thursday, October 15, ahead of the match against Ajax in Split, Hajduk fans chanted "Auschwitz!", "Wake up, Adolf!" and "Crush the Jews!" as they made their way towards Poljud Stadium. A car carrying a coffin bearing the inscription "Ajax" headed the group.
In response to the incident, the Association of Founders of the Croatian Democratic Union /HDZ/ called for an investigation into whether the incidents made by football fans in Split had been spontaneous or orchestrated in the interests of the "Serb world".
