BELGRADE, MAY 21 /SRNA/ - Serbian Prime Minister Đuro Macut told SRNA that the memorial center in Donja Gradina will be a major symbol of the suffering of the Serb people in the Second World War.
"The symbolism of such a memorial should point to the need to preserve the memory of everything that represents an attempt to either destroy or marginalize our people. And we cannot allow that to be forgotten", Macut stressed.
He assessed that the memorial center, which Serbia and Republika Srpska will jointly build, is of great importance both for the Serb people in Republika Srpska and for the Serb people in Serbia.
According to him, such major projects are of national character, but also of universal importance and significance.
"Our need for remembrance, that is, memorials of this type, also speak against attempts to bring back those forces of evil and something that was characteristic of the mid-20th century", Macut emphasized.
He stressed the importance of cooperation and openness in all forms of communication, but added that certain things cannot and must not be forgotten.
"We have always lived with all our neighbors in harmony, unity and understanding through the centuries, but some things must remain permanently recorded", Macut stated, assessing that such memorials serve precisely to ensure that history is not left to oblivion.
