BELGRADE, OCTOBER 30 /SRNA/ - Serbia needs peace, stability and dialogue, which is why the political struggle must move to parliament and the violence and terror against citizens who think differently must stop immediately, Speaker of the Assembly and Acting President of Serbia Ana Brnabić said.
"No one has the right to storm into institutions, media outlets and companies, to harass citizens, to give orders to judges and prosecutors, to make personnel changes in the security services and thereby directly endanger Serbia's security. What is happening is not the rule of law, but the rule of terror," Brnabić said.
She called on the newly elected parliamentary majority to begin establishing the organs of government as soon as possible, form institutions quickly and show a minimum of respect for the laws and the Constitution, as well as for citizens who voted differently, because they too are protected by the Constitution and the law.
She said that all of this amounts to the crudest intimidation of people and journalists, attacks on media freedom, and attacks on and trampling of the autonomy of the prosecution and the independence of the judiciary, and that it must not continue.
"Orders are being issued from the park to judges, prosecutors and the media, and by those who won the elections. A portal has even been opened for everyone to report their 'ćaci', and once you report them, you own your 'ćaci'. That is Nazi policy par excellence," Brnabić said at the building of the General Secretariat of the President of the Republic.
She called for institutions and organs of government to be formed first, and for dismissals to then be made in line with the law, instead of commissar-style orders being read out from the park about who must resign.
She claims the representatives of the newly elected authorities called for an end to violence only after foreigners reacted.
Speaking about calling the presidential election, Brnabić said it will be held by December 27, which is the final deadline, and that the deadline for calling it expires on November 27.
She added that she hopes a new parliament will be formed by then, and that someone from the new parliamentary majority, as Speaker of the Assembly, will also take over the role of acting president and call the presidential election.
