Serbia’s Ministry of Justice has requested an urgent and impartial international investigation into the attack on a Serb high school graduate by members of the so-called Kosovo police in North Mitrovica, and the criminal prosecution of those responsible for this crime.

BELGRADE, MAY 24 /SRNA/ - Serbia’s Ministry of Justice has requested an urgent and impartial international investigation into the attack on a Serb high school graduate by members of the so-called Kosovo police in North Mitrovica, and the criminal prosecution of those responsible for this crime.

"We demand the immediate involvement of international representatives in the protection of the rights of the Serb people and the suspension of political and logistical support to the Kosovo police until accountability is established and basic human rights of Serbs are respected," the Ministry stated.

It was emphasized that the international community, particularly the EU, KFOR, EULEX, and UNMIK, bears responsibility for the security situation and the political atmosphere in which Serb children are physically abused before the eyes of the international public.

The Ministry stressed that the passivity, double standards, and selective justice of these bodies undermine every principle that Europe and international missions claim to uphold.

Justice Minister Nenad Vujić and the Ministry of Justice strongly condemned the shameful and unprovoked attack on the Serb graduate, stating that instead of celebrating the end of the school year safely among his peers, the student was physically attacked, grabbed by the neck, and harassed by uniformed individuals solely for being a Serb.

"This is not an isolated incident, but part of a broader pattern of systemic repression and intimidation of the Serb population in Kosovo and Metohija. There can no longer be any excuse, neither from the provisional institutions in Priština nor from those who support and monitor them," the statement read.

The Ministry emphasized that the Serb graduate from North Mitrovica could have been anyone's child, which obligates a firm and clear reaction.

"The Republic of Serbia will use all legal and political means to ensure such attacks do not happen again, and that every attacker - uniformed or not - faces justice," the statement concluded.

Members of the so-called Kosovo police yesterday physically attacked a Serb graduate in North Kosovska Mitrovica, pulling him out of a procession of students, grabbing him by the neck, and harassing him while addressing him in the Albanian language.
