ASIEL: EDUCATIONAL GATHERING ON JASENOVAC TO MARK UPCOMING DONJA GRADINA COMMEMORATION

BELGRADE, APRIL 16 /SRNA/ – A commemorative and educational event on Jasenovac will be held in Belgrade tomorrow ahead of the observance of the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Genocide in the NDH in Donja Gradina, Chief Rabbi of the Jewish Community in Serbia Isak Asiel said in a statement to SRNA.

Asiel said the event is titled "The Truth About Jasenovac in the NDH /1941–1945/: Historical Perspectives, Remembrance and Documentation".

"We wanted to organize a commemorative gathering ahead of the commemoration in Donja Gradina. We felt a spiritual need to come together, remember the victims through prayer, and reflect on that period", Asiel said.

The event will be attended by the president of the American Association of Jewish Lawyers and Jurists, Robert Garson, as well as representatives of the Serb, Roma, and Jewish communities.

Asiel noted that among the guests from the United States, who will visit Donja Gradina on Sunday, April 19, after Belgrade, will be Rabbi Yehuda Kaploun.

"They will spend Shabbat in Belgrade and on Sunday continue on to Donja Gradina", Asiel said.

He added that the event will be held at the Federation of Jewish Communities of Serbia.
